Our fiber processing services are tailored to meet your needs.
We strive to work with you to create a beautiful product, and for
this reason, we have some guidelines for fleece.
Our machinery works best with fibers that are:
- clean with little vegetation
- no moth damage
- staple length from 2.5 to 7 inches
- blended fibers that are of similar length
(this includes, alpaca, mohair, wool)
Please send us a small sample of your fleece to help us
determine if we can process it effectively.

Washing
Washing
(or scouring) is a critical aspect of processing wool and other
fibers. If done well, only a small amount of dirt and lanolin (natural
oil) remains on the fiber. We will wash your fleece for you or you can
send it to us already washed. If we have to wash it again there will be
an additional charge. We use the mildest detergent available and keep
water temperature as low as possible to avoid damaging the fiber. Some
fibers such as angora and dog hair may not need washing before going
into the carding machine. Most of the dirt, vegetable matter and animal
produce (manure, sweat and lanolin) will be removed during the washing
and picking.

Dyeing
Any fiber
that you send can be dyed using natural dyes from plants and animals.
Usually, we dye the fiber before blending and carding, as this produces
yarns with more variation and character. However, there are many
options. We can dye finished yarns, add our own dyed fibers to yours or
work with you to create new ways to color fiber. Finding unique methods
to spread color and light is our passion.

Carding
The
largest piece of equipment in our mill is the M-32 Carding Machine from
McDermott Textiles. It will produce quality, lofty batts of 32 inches
and roving ready to be hand spun or turned into yarn at the mill. The
clean fiber is fed into the rollers where it is straightened, tangles
and pills are separated, more dirt is removed, and fibers are blended
to varying degrees of uniformity. The end result of carding can be
roving, bumps, or batts. Each type of fiber is different and we are
able to adjust the settings on the machine to handle coarse to fine
fibers and to work with 1 to 8 inch long fiber. Some fibers such as
mohair, dog hair and camel may need to be blended with wool or other
fiber to hold together. The rollers are machined in England and the
carder is assembled in Michigan.

Spinning
We offer
spinning of most fibers, 2.5 to 7 inches long. All spinning orders must
be at least 30% wool, which we will be happy to provide. Yarn can be
single, double or triple plied. The end yarn can be from bulky to
fingering weight. We can put your yarn up into skeins, balls or on
paper cones.

we have set prices, we want our products

We’re open to bartering and creative pricing options.
